Chuck Delpier Science Visit

Chuck The Amazing Scientist 

He visited us to help us learn more about science.

He first showed us how heat rises up by pouring food colouring in to a vat 

  of water he then putting a boiling hot kettle underneath.

Then all of the colour started heading  up to the top. 

      

What you see here is a picture of Patrick, Róisín and James trying to make fire like The Native Americans did long ago. First they had to figure out how to get the stick

 to move and whether to pull, twist or push. One of the clues Chuck gave them was to find a dent in the slab of wood place the stick inside it and twist. After a while they got as you see Róisín has the string wrapped around the stick and she is pushing down which makes it move.

                       Don't worry we didn't make fire all we got was a smell of smoke.

                    

   In this picture you will see Chuck trying to explain to Ms Brennan's classroom how  pressure works.

 

                       Here Chuck is explaining to us how to use a little gadget. This gadget was made of different metals like: copper, iron, brass, tin and silver. In the middle of the gadget is a candle which he lit to heat up the different metals and at the end of it all copper heated up the fastest.

                                                                  

                                                 Here is a picture of Hannah in shock of how hot the

                                           copper straw was. Anna is touching the copper one as well

                                                  but isn't as shocked as Hannah is. James is touching the

                                           brass straw and was saying that is warm but not as hot as the

                                                                              copper one. 

                                                 Ms Brennan's classroom were the best at listening

                                              as you can see in this picture. Here Chuck is showing

                                                 the class how to work the wooden fire makers

                                      This picture is very similar to the one I showed you a while ago

                                                  but this time Anna is very shocked as well.

                                     Here Addy, Emma, Ina and Izzy are trying out the fire makers

                                               ofcourse they got a little help to start them of.

                                             This is Isabelle as you can see she is also trying to figure 

                                         out how to make fire. She actually got so close to making fire

                                  but her wood fell over and you can see the disappointment in her face

                            Liam was finding it very hard to make it work but he got it in the end

                                                 Meet Charlee, Izzy and Hanan who are trying to 

                                             see how many coins they can put on a DVD without

                                                     it sinking down to the bottom of the tub.

    Chuck is now showing us how the power of heat works
