Image
Schull Community College  Science visit. The first years from Schull Community College came to visit our school to teach us some science experiments. We waited for them to set up down our hall. When they where finished we came down to see what was instore for us. They were all in different stations of the room and we were put into partners. Michael and I were partners and the first station we went to was the magnet station.  The student showed us a massive magnet to pick up screws, keys and bolts. The   second thing he showed us was these magnets inside a plastic cover where if you dragged a magnet across the top it would control the magnets inside.  The second station we went to was the strawberry DNA where we sucked the DNA out of the strawberry. It was lots of fun and very fascinating.  The third station  Michael and I went to was the electricity station where they taught u...

Marble Experiment

Image
Marble Experiment In September we did a marble experiment on marbles and what would happen if they hit each other. We put two rulers side by side and rolled one marble into the other. We figured out that if you roll a moving marble into a still marble the still marble will start moving and the moving marble will stop. And if you put two marbles moving and they hit three marbles the last two marbles will start moving so this shows us that energy can travel from one marble to the other. It also shows us that the energy can travel through things and not just wires above the road. The marble experiment was a good one to show us energy can travel through things. You can see how we did it in this picture and what we used it was a really fun experiment too so you could try it yourself.

Discovery Centre Workshop                   At the start of the year we had a workshop with Ally from  the Discovery                 Centre in Co Dublin. Ally came to talk to us about litter and how it affects                   our world in many different ways such as water pollution. Also in the                             evening  she talked to us about climate change and how that effects our                    world. She showed us a few PowerPoints she put us in groups and set us a few  challenges such as match the card to the answer the card but the cards showed the life of a rubbish bag another game we played guess how long it takes for litter to decompose and most of the  class were shocked to know...
