Green Schools

For the next 2 years we are working on getting are next green schools flag. For the themes of global citizenship and energy we set up a green schools notice board in are school hall. We learnt about Global Goals for Sustainable Development. There are seventeen global goals and the aim is to achieve these goals by twenty thirty to make a better world. We also did a sheet of Irish Aid which are helping countries in Africa such as Ethiopia , Tanzania , and Mozambique.

Irish Aid provided funding for women in Manhure village in the Niassa reserve to teach eighteen women and two men how to crochet toys of the local wildlife. They now use the money from selling these toys to buy food for their families. They also helped Sierra Leone because it is badly affected by climate change. In twenty twenty one Ireland supported small farmers to learn about climate smart farming. Recently Irish Aid helped woman in Zambia to keep their land, stop deforestation and use sustainable methods to harvest honey and mushrooms.

Another thing we learned was fast fashion where minors and adults would work hours making shoes, shirts and jackets just to be under paid and over worked. fast fashion effects ten percent of the worlds emissions. And twenty percent of water polution in the world. Irish Aid also gave money for a climate smart agriculture project in the dodoma region in Tanzania. This project set up a market for participating farmers so that they could sell their sorghum crop.

We also did a zoom call workshop on Irish Aid and we span a wheel with a bunch of Irish Aid answers on it so we tried to get them right and for most of them we did. We had a guy who worked at trocaire come to are school and talk to us about it. He gave us a board game and we set it up and played it. It was all about how many countries they have helped and how they helped them.
