STEM showcase
STEM SHOWCASE.
- We aim to provide lots of opportunities throughout the year for the children to display their Science Work and what they have learnt.
- Any time we have carried out science experiments throughout the year the senior room will show their work to the junior room and vice versa. This creates great excitement as they love to show what they have learnt to each other.
- The older children would visit the younger classroom to see their work and allow them to explain how they made them and what they learnt.
- When we made the LEGO models each of the groups would show the other groups how their model worked.
- We displayed all of their lego models along the windows in the school.
- During our school open day their science work was on display and labelled throughout the school.
- We display their science work on notice boards around the school. We also created a green schools notice board. This gives the students opportunities to look at each others learning and discuss as they move through out the school could also be viewed by any visitors coming to the school.
- All our science work is also displayed on our school facebook page kilcoens and on our school website www.kilcoens.ie. This gives parents and the wider community an opportunity to see and engage with the work the children are doing.
- The Senior room also compiled a blog of all their science work throughout the year. They typed up all the experiments and explanations of our investigations.
- We held a whole school Science Day in the school hall. All of the children worked together and learnt together at the different stations.
- The Senior Room held a show and tell showcase day and they invited the junior room to come and watch. Some children presented projects on their favourite animals, while others showcased all the lego models they have built so far.
- We entered the Heritage Council Lego building competition. Sam's model of the Fastnet Lighhouse was one of the winning entries and his model went on display at at the Medieval Mile Museum in Kilkenny.
- We worked together as a whole school to design and make an entry for a local village Scarecrow Festival. Our Scarecrows won the best overall at the Festival.
We were delighted with the increased opportunities this year to regularly allow the children to display and explain and teach their science learning to each other.
